GAC is a private, non-profit organization, run by volunteers. Our work is supported entirely by private contributions. We are dependent on donations from individuals, foundations and corporations. We receive no funding from the greyhound racing industry.
Contributions support our rescue kennel operations, fuel and maintenance for our transport van, food and medical care for the greyhounds, and other costs associated with our rescue and adoption programs.
Fyvie Fund
The Fyvie Fund, the Greyhound Adoption Center’s medical fund for greyhounds who have sustained leg injuries, helps us provide treatment, surgery and after-care for broken hocks and other serious conditions.
In 2004, Fyvie was a five-year-old ex-racing greyhound who was found by the side of a road in rural Central California emaciated and unable to stand due to broken bones in both forearms. Our initial treatment included medication and splints, but due to parasite infestation, malnourishment and an apparent previous pregnancy, she was unable to heal after six weeks. A veterinary surgical specialist performed surgery with grafts and metal plates to heal her bones. The surgery cost in excess of $4,000, so GAC sent out a plea for financial help. Donors were so generous we had more than enough money to help Fyvie, and so asked the supporters if excess donations could start a new medical fund in Fyvie’s honor.
To date, the Fund has helped dozens of greyhounds, but we need your help to be able to continue to care for injured greyhounds on an ongoing basis.
